Courses in historical craftsmanship
for GroupsAt MAMUZ Schloss Asparn/Zaya, the fire of ancient craftsmanship is revived. You will need curiosity and courage, as well as some manual skills, to immerse yourself in a life that you could have led around 40,000 years ago. Make tools, learn about nature's miracle cures or go all out and practise how to survive in unspoilt nature. All this under expert guidance and in small groups.
Course selection
- Medieval medicine chest
Learn about important medicinal herbs and make ointments and tinctures.
7 hours / 5-12 people - Boiling soap
Make fragrant soaps from various raw materials.
3.5 hours / 3-10 people - Obsidian knife
Learn printing techniques for making tools from obsidian and stone.
8 hours / 3-10 people - Forging knives
Learn the basics of forging, different types of knives and historical backgrounds.
8 hours / 4-6 people - Bronze casting
Making your own mould into which the molten bronze is poured.
8 hours / 4-6 people - Forging arrowheads
The basics of forging, different types of arrowheads and historical backgrounds are taught.
8 hours / 4-6 persons - Axe forging
Each participant forges their own hatchet based on a historical model.
8 hours / 3-4 persons - Making wire jewellery
After an introduction to fine forging techniques and the historical background, jewellery items such as finger rings, pendants or simple brooches are forged from non-ferrous metal wire.
8 hours / 4-6 people - Carving bones and antlers
Knowledge and practical skills in bone and antler carving are taught. An object is then carved according to an archaeological model.
8 hours / 4-6 people - Building a wooden chest
Each participant makes a wooden chest based on Iron Age or early historical models and familiarises themselves with the most important tools and working techniques of these eras.
8 hours / 4-6 people - Cooking like in prehistoric times
Using our ancestors' cooking skills, you will cook and taste a dish from the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age.
8 hours / 4-10 people - Survival
What are the most important aspects of survival? How can I prepare myself, when is a survival situation a survival situation? Including making a fire, meteorology, orientation, tools made from natural materials and much more.
To take along: Knife with a fixed blade.
